More than 2,000 manufacturers from across North America attended Mazak Corporation’s DISCOVER 2019 event held November 5-7 and 12-13 at the company’s North American Manufacturing Headquarters in Florence, Kentucky. The event featured over 30 live machine tool demonstrations, and Mazak unveiled for the first time in North America several productivity-enhancing technologies such as its new MAZATROL SmoothAi control as well as a new mixed reality training and service support system. The company also showcased some of its investments in its Florence, Kentucky, manufacturing campus, including a sneak preview of the latest improvements to its Mazak iSMART Factory™ and a new Spindle Rebuild Facility in the campus’ South Building.
Today, when many people think of Multi-Tasking, they think of INTEGREX, the series of Mazak machines that introduced the concept to many manufacturers, and the myriad benefits shops can achieve with the technology. Without the need to transfer workpieces from one machine to the next, Multi-Tasking machines require minimal human intervention and can operate unattended for longer periods of time. They allow manufacturers to accomplish more with fewer machine tools on their factory floors, which saves valuable production space. Fewer required machines, in turn, results in lower production costs and shorter job turnaround times.

Mazak Corporation has announced its acquisition of MegaStir, a supplier of friction stir welding (FSW) tools and technology located in Provo, Utah. With the acquisition, Mazak continues to expand and build upon its HYBRID Multi-Tasking Machine Technology. The new Mazak MegaStir will provide further system advancements and evolve into an FSW technology center. A resident FSW machine in Provo as well as in other Mazak Technology Centers will provide customers the potential for real manufacturing solutions in a DONE IN ONE® capacity.

Spindle downtime costs money in more ways than one. The failure of a single machine can take down an entire cell or disable a multi-machine production process.
