Mazak Demonstrates Extended Bed Length of the QUICK TURN 350MY at DISCOVER 2021

FLORENCE, Ky., November 1, 2021 – Featuring a through-hole chuck package, integral turning spindle motor and extended bed length, Mazak’s QUICK TURN 350MY Multi-Tasking CNC Turning Center combines milling capability and Y-axis functionality with advanced technology, productivity and value to deliver exceptional performance for shops large and small. At DISCOVER 2021, the company showcased the machine’s ability to process long shaft work components utilizing a steady rest and tailstock to handle maximum workpiece sizes.

For part-processing versatility, the machine provides a maximum machining diameter of 16.540" (420 mm) and a maximum workpiece length of 81.09” (2060 mm) for the 80” (2032mm) bed length version of the machine.

Sporting a bar diameter capacity of 4" (102 mm), the main spindle, with a 15” (381 mm) diameter chuck, has a 40 hp (29.8 kW) motor and maximum speed of 2,500 rpm. The rotary tool turret spindle is 10.0 hp (7.4 kW) with a maximum speed of 6,000 rpm and 12-tool capacity. A CNC tailstock employs a servo motor and ball screw for precise movements, providing the flexibility to process either heavy, large-diameter or long, thin workpieces.

For the event, the machine was equipped with a SMW K3-Z single, automatic steady rest package with drag and drop base. This steady rest package provided part clamping diameter between 2.54” to 9.25” (65mm to 235mm). The 4.0" (102 mm) Y-axis travel facilitates machining of complex part shapes.

The machine comes standard with the SmoothG CNC that includes MAZATROL conversational programming as well as EIA-ISO programming capabilities. Its Automatic Tool Eye, an automatic tool-presetting system, is a standard feature. Bringing the tool tip in contact with the Tool Eye automatically records the offset of the tool nose position, tool measurement and data registration to ensure accuracy and reduce setup time.
