Northeast Lunch & Learn - MTConnect

When: Thursday, November 6, 2014 | 11:30am - 2:00pm

Where: Northeast Technology Center | Windsor Locks, CT

MTConnect is a set of open, royalty-free standards intended to foster greater interoperability between controls, devices and software applications by publishing data over networks using the Internet Protocol. MTConnect has become the new machine tool standard for networking machines and factory operations. Mr. Neil Desrosiers, a member of the MTConnect Technical Advisory Group and chairperson for the Machine Tool Works Group will give a presentation on how MTConnect works and share the benefits achieved by companies currently using this new industry performance standard.

MTConnect is a basic first step in linking shop floor technologies and moving towards the goal of seamless manufacturing operation. By establishing an open and extensible channel of communication for plug-and-play interconnectivity between devices, equipment and systems, MTConnect allows sources to exchange and understand each other's data. That common communication is facilitated by using widely accepted XML and Internet Protocol technology to provide managers with near real-time data from throughout a factory. This thus empowers them to develop applications aimed at providing more efficient operations, improved production optimization and increased productivity.

A live demonstration of MTConnect being used at the Mazak manufacturing facility located in Florence, Kentucky will be shown. Several companies around the country have visited the Mazak facility to see MTConnect in action and these same companies have followed what they learned from Mazak in implementing their own MTConnect capability.
