Mazak Set to Inspire at 2018 Smart Manufacturing Event

FLORENCE, Ky., February 16, 2018 – Mazak has been designated by SME and The Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) as a founding partner for The Smart Manufacturing Experience 2018. The event will take place April 30 – May 2 at the Boston Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts, and will provide insight and information about the latest manufacturing and transformative technologies to manufacturers seeking to boost productivity, increase sales, improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Event participants will immerse themselves in a world of interactive learning and hands-on technology demonstrations to gain real-world knowledge and best practices. Mazak will present three 30-minute Learning Labs: an overview of its advanced SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY products, a look at Mazak’s new HYBRID technologies, and a discussion about digital connectivity and its role in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and the Mazak iSMART Factory™.

Mazak’s SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY has revolutionized the way machine tools perform. Dan DaSilva, Mazak’s Northeast assistant applications manager, will share how the all-encompassing platform brings unmatched speed, accuracy, functionality and ergonomics to virtually every type of metalworking application. Attendees will also learn how Mazatrol Smooth CNCs have become the industry’s fastest and help maximize a shop’s machining efficiency.

Advanced technology has also begun to transform the machine tools themselves, a topic Mazak product manager Joe Wilker will cover in a presentation on Mazak’s advanced HYBRID Multi-Tasking technologies. The Learning Lab will include a look at increasingly popular additive manufacturing techniques, such as direct metal deposition, as well as friction stir welding (FSW) and other major innovations that Mazak has introduced as part of its HYBRID lineup.

Neil Desrosiers, application engineer, developer and MTConnect specialist at Mazak, will present the Learning Lab on digital connectivity, the IIoT and the Mazak iSMART Factory. Attendees will discover how easy it is to take the first steps into safe and secure digital connectivity and the IIoT with proven implementation strategies. Desrosiers will also offer field-proven recommendations and share best practices.

At the event, Mazak application engineers will also perform live cutting tool demonstrations on two of the company’s advanced machine tools in booth 1225. Visitors to the booth will see an aerospace component processed on the Mazak VC-500 AM HYBRID Multi-Tasking machine. The machine combines full 5-axis capability and additive technology to revolutionize product design, reduce time to market and cut R&D costs by building part features to near net shape up to ten times faster than other comparable systems.

Mazak will also demonstrate the cutting of a medical part on its small-footprint INTEGREX i-100 BARTAC-S Multi-Tasking machine that employs two turning spindles and a milling spindle for full 5-axis machining and DONE IN ONE® operations. The machine's Intelligent Bar Loader System automatically feeds out material the required distance from the chuck and minimizes the bar remnant.
