Mazak To Feature Advanced HYBRID Multi-Tasking at CMTS 2017

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario, July 7, 2017 — Mazak Canada will showcase several machine tool innovations suitable for shops of all sizes and manufacturing requirements at this year’s CMTS in booth 2560. Show attendees will experience a variety of Mazak technology demonstrations, including the additive and subtractive part processing of the company’s VC-500 AM HYBRID Multi-Tasking Machine.

Mazak will also highlight the full 5-axis machining of its VC-500A/5X Vertical Machining Center, the DONE IN ONE® capability of the QUICK TURN 250MSY Multi-Tasking Machine and the self-contained automation of the VARIAXIS i-600 Vertical Machining Center with Multi-Pallet Pool (MPP). All these machines feature Mazak’s MAZATROL Smooth CNC technology — the industry’s fastest, most progressive machine tool controls.

Mazak’s VC-500 AM features full 5-axis capability and additive technology, both of which help shops reduce time to market and cut R&D costs. The machine is a culmination of Mazak’s considerable expertise in building Multi-Tasking machines, experience with fiber laser technology, additive knowledge and highly efficient Kentucky Mazak iSMART Factory™ manufacturing operations.

The VC-500A/5X accurately processes small complex parts and features a robust, high-performance spindle that powers through all common materials – from steel and aluminum to cast iron. The machine’s 60-tool capacity magazine and automatic tool changer deliver rapid part setups and shorten non-cut times.

For multi-tasking functionality, Mazak’s QUICK TURN 250MSY has two turning spindles, a rotary tool milling spindle and Y-axis capabilities – all of which allow for single setup DONE IN ONE part processing. The machine’s 12-position, direct-drive turret houses the milling spindle that delivers, as standard, 6,000 rpm and 10 hp, and with an optional tooling package, a 10,000-rpm version is available.

The VARIAXIS i-600 is a full simultaneous 5-axis high-speed machine that handles workpieces up to 27.56” (700 mm) in diameter and 17.72” (450 mm) high as well as complex components, such as impellers, requiring ample Y-axis and Z-axis machine strokes. Mazak designed the VARIAXIS i-600 with an extended Y-axis stroke of 35.83” (910 mm) and X- and Z-axis strokes of 20.08” (510 mm), which together give the machine an ample working envelope. Rapid traverse rates of 2,362 ipm (60 m/min) in X- and Y-axes, as well as a 2,205 ipm (56 m/min) rate in the Z-axis, allow the machine to quickly maneuver around large complex workpieces to boost productivity.

Mazak’s compact, self-contained MPP system provides the VARIAXIS i-600 with multiple pallets and a robot loader. The carousel-style system is well suited for areas with limited shop floor space, while it maximizes machine utilization. The MPP expands, so shops can initially incorporate it with fewer pallets and grow the system in line with changing production needs.
