(FLORENCE, KENTUCKY) – Mazak Corporation will have an expanded presence and introduce two new Multi-Tasking machines at WESTEC 2008, March 31-April 3, at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.
With a larger, 40-x-70-foot exhibit (Booth #2900), Mazak will be able to address the needs of attendees by displaying more advanced technology machines. Among them, a new generation of the Multi-Tasking INTEGREX i-150 Machining Center, which has a smaller footprint and more intelligent functions than previous models, and the all-new HYPER QUADREX 150 MSY, designed for high-performance Multi-Tasking of cylindrical and prismatic parts completed from bar stock.
The all-new HYPER QUADREX 150 MSY is specifically designed for efficient, high-volume, Done-in-One production of turned and machined workpieces from bar stock up to 2.56” in diameter. It is ideal for job shop applications.
The HYPER QUADREX features two horizontally opposed spindles for turning and C-axis control, plus two full-function tool turrets with milling capability.
With twin turrets and twin spindles, both with y-axis cutting capabilities, users gain innovative process opportunities. The main and secondary spindles can operate together or separately. Both can work on the same part at the same time, a single part to be machined on all surfaces through a coordinated “hand-off” between spindles, or two different parts can be machined simultaneously on one machine. Each turret offers a full complement of 12 VDI-type tools, including 7.5-Hp, 6,000-rpm live spindles for milling, drilling and tapping operations.
Several Intelligent Functions are built into the HYPER QUADREX 150 MSY to ensure safe and efficient operation. One is Virtual Machining, which creates and executes an accurate 3D simulation of the cutting program to minimize test cuts and check for tool interferences. Intelligent Safety Shield is a 3D model of all machine, chuck, turret, tooling and workpiece elements that checks for all possible interferences, shutting down the drives as obstacles are identified. Mazak Voice Advisor verbally reminds the operator through the Mazatrol Matrix CNC about selected switch settings and cautionary considerations.
In addition to the INTERGEX i-150 and the HYPER QUADREX 150 MSY, Mazak is exhibiting five other machines at WESTEC 2008. They include the VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS 510C-II 5x, the NEXUS QTN 200-II MSY Turning Center, the INTEGREX 100-IV, the HORIZONTAL CENTER NEXUS 4000, and the VARIAXIS 630.
A participant in WESTEC since 1983, Mazak has long recognized the importance of the Western Region and has operated its Western Headquarters and Aerospace Technology Center in Gardena, California since 1989. Part of Mazak’s network of eight North American Technology Centers, this facility’s mission is to continuously improve the machining process while providing application support to the aerospace industry.
