(FLORENCE, KY, May 8, 2007) – Mazak Corporation expanded its network of North American Technology Centers with the May 2 opening of its $4 million Canada Headquarters and Technology Centre in Cambridge, Ontario. It is the eighth Mazak Technology Center in North America and the 29th in the world.
Some 650 customers and guests from all over Canada attended the Grand Opening ceremony on May 2 and the open house the next day.
The new Technology Center is the latest example of Mazak’s commitment to stay close to the unique requirements and character of the world’s most important local manufacturing markets, providing advanced-technology solutions to customers to improve their productivity. This is accomplished by bringing customers’ real-world challenges face-to-face with the leading machine tools, accessory equipment, tooling, software, and automation to find the most efficient processing of parts, which is the lifeblood of competitive manufacturing.
Since 2000, when Mazak opened the Southeast Headquarters and Technology Center in Atlanta, which focuses on transportation and automotive components manufacturing, Mazak has been regularly adding to its North American network of Technology Centers. In 2002, the Mexico Headquarters and Technology Center in Monterrey was established to support the growth of manufacturing in that country made possible by NAFTA.
In 2005, the National Technology Center in Florence, KY doubled in size to 69,000 square feet and includes the new Center for Multi-Tasking and Manufacturing
Excellence. It also has a 200-seat Learning Center for technical seminars, training workshops, and special events.
Last year, Mazak opened its Northeast Headquarters and Technology Center in Hartford, CT, which focuses on medical and other high-tech applications. And this month, the Canada Technology Centre joins Mazak’s North American network of regional Headquarters and Technology Centers.
Mazak’s Canada Technology Centre in Cambridge, is in the midst of what if referred to as Canada’s Technology Triangle, which encompasses the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo. This area has Canada’s second most manufacturing intensive regional economy. The new Canada Headquarters and Technology Centre covers 22,000 square feet and will be home to Mazak’s 30-person sales, technical and service support operation. Like all of the other Mazak Technology Centers, the Canada Technology Centre link with local manufacturing industries and will provide them with process development with the latest manufacturing advances, demonstrate such solutions as multi-tasking technology, five-axis machining, and high-speed machining.
Mazak’s investment in North America isn’t limited to Technology Centers. Mazak has been investing in its Florence, KY manufacturing plant since it was established in 1974. Today, it manufactures 30 different NEXUS models, Mazak’s highly successful and growing product lines of Turning and Vertical Machining Centers. Several new NEXUS models are expected to be introduced this fall.
Due to flexible, lean, and continually upgraded manufacturing systems employing Mazak’s own manufacturing technology, machines produced in Florence are built in a short lead time to meet customer delivery expectations.
